Pioneer Karen Vaites draws attention to the current state of play raising issues about prevailing literacy programmes in the USA:
More than 13 states are taking action to get the most popular reading curricula out of classrooms.

Let that sink in.

As of 2019, these two programs were in ~40% of US elementary schools. And they don’t align to research on how kids learn to read.
