Why Jaydon Can't Read: Australia

Post by Debbie_Hepplewhite »

I'm raising this video footage of some fab people in Australia - if you're in a hurry go to 31 minutes to hear Steven Schwartz's cut-to-the-chase summary and then when you have more time, try to watch all through:

This is the third video in the 'Why Jaydon Can't Read' series featuring Justine Ferrari and Tom Alegounarias:

Please bear in mind that whilst this is focused on teaching reading in Australia, the same issues are relevant in other English-speaking countries and contexts.

This is an international issue, a long-lasting, serious and totally unnecessary state of affairs - it's a tragedy to this day.

I developed a thread previously about this topic and the talks hosted by The Centre for Independent Studies which provides additional information and literature for anyone who is interested - no doubt particularly our friends in Australia:

Kevin Wheldall writes about the rationale for Multilit and Response To Intervention (RTI):

How do we ensure that all children learn to read?

Kevin's article on the same theme:

How do we ensure that (almost) all children learn to read:
