Calling teachers, parents, tutors - in fact - anyone - who has a good news story to share. What difference has systematic synthetic phonics made to a school, class or child that you know?

The National Right to Read Foundation (NRRF) has updated its list of reading programs and professional development in reading instruction:

For some time we have been having discussions about why the findings of research are not reaching our teachers. The attached list of websites include many excellent programs that are consistent with the findings of reading science over the past half century. In addition, these websites provide a source of information for teachers who would like to attend a conference on the latest reading science programs and the excellent results they offer.

We could encourage parents and teachers alike to investigate reading instruction programs and professional development opportunities by spending a few minutes investigating what is already available. The programs listed is only a fraction of what is available, and I would encourage an expansion of this list and circulating it to as many educators, parents and policy makers as possible.

Most K – 2 teachers will not read the research, as much as we hope they will. They are most interested in how to teach all of the children in their classes to read proficiently.

Too many K-2 teachers are never exposed to the many excellent reading programs available today, or the professional development available to them.

We would suggest that teachers check out these websites and contact them for more information. Many of the speakers at conferences are very familiar with these programs and would welcome any inquiry.
