Literacy Advisor Ann Sullivan has undertaken some pioneering work in the UK endeavouring to ensure that pupils with special educational needs are not precluded from the opportunities provided by phonics, and pre-phonics. Teachers and parents are often truly surprised when they discover what learners with profound challenges can achieve when given the content and opportunity to learn about print and to read and spell via a phonics route to at least to some level - read on:
