England: Year 1 phonics screening check results 2022-2023

The Department for Education (DfE) in England has released the statutory Year 1 phonics screening check results:

These results are better than the 2022 results although they are below the 2017-2019 results when the national average pass-rate was 82%. Those were the last 3 years before the pandemic. No official testing was done in 2020 and 2021, and the children who took the PSC in 2022 had experienced some disruption to their schooling. The pass-rate that year was only 75%.
