Phonics in Ghana

The establishment of the International Foundation for Effective Reading Instruction itself is newsworthy. It is about collaboration and collegiality between all stakeholders in the aspiration of world-literacy!

The committee is not suggesting that the English language ‘should’ be taught globally, but it is a reality that many people across the world, whether by official expectation, or simply the wish of the people, choose to teach and learn English.

Whilst not all countries and contexts are resource-rich when it comes to the ‘materials’ of teaching and learning English, nevertheless the basic features for effective instruction are really about the knowledge and understanding of how best to go about the teaching and learning of English based on research-findings. We can therefore find different ways, and different materials, for supporting people far and wide – and we’ll soon have more news on a variety of international projects such as…
